Being named on the Inspiring Black Women in STEM & Construction (IBWSC) list was more than a moment of pride. It was a quiet validation of years spent building against the odds.

As a Black woman in construction and a parent-carer, my path hasn’t followed the usual blueprint. Like many on that list, I’ve had to create space before I could step into it. That’s why I founded Studio Booth Ltd - a consultancy now leading on fire remediation and design management, rooted in both compliance and care.

The award meant visibility and also responsibility.

My pledge to mentor through Vaka has shifted something in me. It’s made me show up more visibly, more intentionally. I no longer see visibility as exposure, but as legacy-building in a way to pave clearer paths for the women coming behind me.

It’s also made me reflect on the future of my business.

What could Studio Booth become with the right support?

How might we scale sustainably while still staying true to our values?

What if the next generation of design managers and fire safety consultants started here, mentored, seen, and believed in?

The women on that IBWSC list are not just inspirational. They we are investment-worthy.

We’re already:

  • Leading housing safety and sustainability projects

  • Creating jobs and developing talent pipelines

  • Mentoring students and reshaping outreach in schools

  • Closing the very skills gaps the industry is struggling to address

We don’t just need to be seen but backed.

So to those quietly watching: the blueprint is here.

Let’s build what comes next, together.
